Chapter 37

Mendel found this rock in the middle of its million year moment in eternity. (Chapter 5)

Chapter 37

I was surprised tonight by an e-mail from a woman named Eleanor from Lock Haven, PA, who said she’d just published a review of my book in the local newspaper. I’d had a less than perfect day at work and the letter raised me out of the world of frustration and depression. She said she loved The Perfect Song, and, as a writer, I live for that kind of feedback. Just about all artists do. After all, we’re trying to communicate, to share our message, whatever that message may be.

One of The Perfect Song’s messages is to dare to pursue your dream, no matter that the obstacles.

Another message is that this moment is the most important moment, it’s the eternal moment, the liquid bridge between our “past” and “future.”

By sharing my experiences with you about this book venture, I’m sharing a grand experiment that has been, and will continue to be, totally honest. If I fail, if I get sucked into the huge ocean of millions of writers drowning in anonymity, you will read it here.

If I succeed and sell thousands of books and it’s optioned for a movie and Mendel t-shirts are sold across the country, you will read that, also. And you will know that by supporting the book and being a regular visitor to this site, that you are a partner in that success.

I know I sound like a starry-eyed young innocent but understand that I believe this:

Dare to Dream Big.

If you’re an artist, no matter what your age, we’re in an era of unabashed marketing. No one comes to you. There are just too many of us artists trying to be heard.

I’m composing a pitch letter to an editor of a respected music magazine. I’m including the book and a request that they review it. If he says yes, I’m still taking a chance that the reviewer may not like it and either not review it or give it a lukewarm review. Or the person may love it and give it a great review. It’s a gamble, yes. But if I don’t try, nothing will happen.

If you’ve read the book you know that the real adventure, the frustrations and rewards, are in the quest itself.

So let’s see what happens.

(Commercial: If you haven't bought The Perfect Song yet, I do have PayPal. Go to the store and check it out. All profits from the book will be used to create a scholarship for future writers).
