I learned a lot publishing TPS. The first thing
is that you don’t need to go to traditional publishers. It’s
time-consuming. In fact, in today’s world, it’s too time-consuming.
We don’t have time to send out manuscripts and wait months
for a rejection because it’s “not commercial enough.” Everything
is based on money. (Is this a good investment? Will it pay off?)
Tell you what, guys. I don’t care if it pays off. I put my
life into this art. I care about it passionately. I’ll publish
it.
I did that, but I didn’t take the time I should have to proof
and double and triple proof it. I had a book that I’d worked
on for 25 years that had 35 typos.
So if you want to publish, take great care with the proofing. Have
others proof it, too.
I do highly recommend iUniverse. They have
the publishing cycle down to a science. They’re efficient, fast, and most importantly,
honest. I also found them to be human in an increasingly mechanized
world. They have been all that’s good. If you have thoughts
of publishing, contact me and I’ll give you my thoughts.
Secondly, I knew from the beginning that I
needed a Website. Derek Pell designed it and I highly recommend
him. He’s easy to work
with. He has a lot of experience and his prices are reasonable.
In my day job I’ve worked with a lot
of designers and artists over the years. Derek is one of the best.
